Cut & sew on the bias

45° cut29" square
  1. Cut each 29" square diagonally, corner to corner, into two triangles.
  2. Put right sides together and join matching straight-grain edges with a ¼″ seam to make a parallelogram. Press the seam open.
  3. On the wrong side, mark lines 2½" apart, parallel to the long bias edge. Trim any narrow leftover strip.
  4. Bring the remaining straight-grain ends right sides together to form a tube. Offset by one strip so the first marked line meets the second. Match lines at the ¼″ seam line, not the raw edge; sew and press open.
  5. Start at the overhanging end and cut along the marked line in one continuous spiral. Fold in half lengthwise, wrong sides together, and press for double-fold quilt binding.
